5th June was recognized globally as the World Environment Day and has been celebrated by hundreds of environmental organizations worldwide. The Armenian Society for the Protection of Birds (ASPB) joined the “Let’s do it!” Armenia movement which was celebrated by a flashmob chalk drawing contest titled “Armenia without garbage” in Yerevan and other regions of Armenia. The event is part of the World Cleanup 2012 action aimed at uniting Armenia and cleaning the country from waste to be held in the country on 15 September 2012.
In Yerevan, the contest was organized in the Yerevan Children’s Park and the main task of the drawing contest was to picture a clean environment. Children drew trees, flowers, forest and other nature elements. Participation involved more than 80 schoolchildren aged 6-12 years. Upon the completion of the event the participants received prizes prepared by some organizations including ASPB.
This event was spearheaded by the Young Biologists Association NGO and joined efforts of other partner organizations such as WWF-Armenia, Armenia Tree Project, Yerevan, Hrazdan, Alaverdi, Aparan, Eghvard, Ijevan and Gavar Aarhus Centers, Armenian Environmental Network, DJ Vakcina (The Laboratory), Kanachastan NGO, “Yeghvard” Youth Environmental NGO, “Tapan” Eco-Club NGO, Consumers Support Center NGO, Youth Journalists Association NGO, Armyouth.am website, Ohanyan Educational Complex and more.
