June 1st, an International Children's Day was celebrated by ASPB in Yerevan Zoo by having joined the events and festive celebrations organized by other organizations. In addition to funny looking harlequins, musical bands, heroes and heroines of fairy tales and other well known characters, several organizations were present at the Zoo and were allocated separate information booths, including the Armenian Society for the Protection of Birds.
Our Society organized and ran open-air quiz shows and various contests to test the children’s knowledge of birds. ASPB staff was very proud to see that the interest towards birds and the quiz shows was exceptional high and participating children stretched their minds and tried to use the maximum of their imagination and logical thinking to provide correct answers, albeit it wasn’t always the case. Correct answers were rewarded with little motivation gifts and prizes by ASPB. At the allocated information booth ASPB introduced its education programs such as the “Bird of the Year” and “Spring Alive!” annual education campaigns, a number of popular and very interesting awareness products, calendars and colorful bird stickers.
It is worth mentioning that the children’s celebrations in the Zoo were specially honored by the visit of the President of Armenia who joined the events along with his granddaughter and expressed his hope to see the Yerevan Zoo as one of children’s most favorite places for pastime in future.
The Armenian Society for the Protection of Birds and a number of other participating organizations offered to children one more unforgettable and happy experience in the Yerevan Zoo.
