During its Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) monitoring program, Armenian Society for the Protection of Birds made its second visit to Armash IBA.
And we had quite exciting and inspiring results! In particular, we were lucky to discover and capture White-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala), a breeding bird and quite rare species for Armenia. For instance, in Armenia this species found breeding only at Armash fishery ponds.
During monitoring several remarkable bird species for Armenia have been observed: Ferruginous Pochard (Aythya nyroca), Common Shelduck (Tadorna tadorna), Eurasian Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus), Black-winged Pratincole (Glareola nordmanni), Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata), Marsh Sandpiper (Tringa stagnatilis) and Gull-billed Tern (Sterna nilotica).
