From 10th to 12th of October, BirdLife Europe and Central Asia Committee meeting was held in Tbilisi and Batumi hosted by SABUKO — our BirdLife partner in Georgia. Representatives of AOS and ASPB accompanied the Committee for parts of the meeting. The Committee’s visit in the Caucasus region was to emphasize the importance of the partners’ work in the region and to support the BirdLife Caucasus Initiative.
Partners from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia presented their achievements and challenges (e.g. difficult political context for NGOs in Azerbaijan). The Caucasus Initiative has already a positive impact in the region and the ECA Committee encourages more BirdLife partners to support it.
A sub-regional meeting of the Caucasus and Central Asian Partners will be held in January 2017 hosted by ACBK (BirdLife partner in Kazakhstan) to further strengthen the cooperation in the region and equip the partners with the necessary skills to respond to the challenges and deliver the BirdLife strategy.
The Committee reviewed the progress towards the 2016 Work Plan, as well as the priorities for 2017 in the light of the implementation of the BirdLife Global Strategy. It has been highlighted the importance of updating the IBA information in the World Bird Database (WBDB), as well as to test the KBA criteria in Europe.
The next EPM will be held in Singapore on the 9th of October 2017, the day before the BirdLife World Congress.
